I am slow to realize it but thank God I have!
When I asked my Professor whether he's heard of Pulau Kayu and showed him the thesis paper, he wondered why the author was being cagey or wary. I took some time but finally figured out that the author was intentionally hiding the true name of Pulau ________, probably to protect the privacy of the community.
Some clues I have to help me identify the island are:
1. One of the islands in the Selat Sembilan group (one of the Jurong islets)
2. Total area of 49.47 acres (20.02 hectares or 0.0773 sq. miles)
3. Population of 311 as of 1957
4. It is two miles from the mainland
5. The island is surrounded in mangroves, except four peaks, which form the habitable parts
6. The biggest peak is to the eat of the island forming the main settlement.
Based on just population, Pulau Seraya is an exact match, but the land area does not match. Hmmmm...
